Im surprised there’s even any debate about importing a new fuel when the solar+battery with some wind and biomethane pathway is what’s being done all over the world in climates similar to Hawaii. Especially when you’re looking at industrial energy too, where you would assume that a lot of industry might choose to move elsewhere rather than paying for ammonia logistics and the trouble that brings.

I guess it’s a folly of being rich, that you end up overpaying because you’re used to expensive being better. However in the case of electricity, cheaper is better even though it means dropping a lot of complicated and exciting technology

It does make you wonder about motivation, doesn’t it. ;)

Indeed

Why is Hawaii not going geothermal? There are for sure enough hot spots to tap into.

Oahu is inert. The Big Island has some geothermal but the indigenous population is against it due to cultural norms and beliefs.

So the Indigenous population rater destroys the whole environment, ad heats up the global warming, with the worst fossil fuel. LNG is worse than coal if all the pollution from cradel to grave is put into consideration, especially the cooling of the natural gas down to -162 C. which needs a tremendous amount of energy.
